The history of Chicheley Hall
Chicheley Hall has stood for more than three centuries as one of Buckinghamshire’s finest examples of English Baroque architecture. The present house was completed in the early 1700s for Sir John Chester, a member of a family that had held the estate for over 400 years. Its design is attributed to the celebrated architect Francis Smith of Warwick, known for his mastery of proportion and classical detail.
The house features red brick façades with stone dressings, tall sash windows, and a sweeping double staircase that remains one of its most iconic interior features. During the 20th century, Chicheley Hall served multiple roles — from wartime refuge to research institute — before being lovingly restored to its original splendour as a luxury events venue.
Today, couples can celebrate their wedding surrounded by history, craftsmanship, and timeless elegance. Every corner of Chicheley Hall tells a story — from the hand-carved wooden panelling to the grand dining rooms where light pours through Georgian glass.
