A Love Story Written in Stars… and Matching Bowties
Step into the enchantment of Eli and Tom’s beautifully relaxed and joy-filled wedding day at the unforgettable Whistle Barns, a venue that balances industrial elegance with a rustic heart. Nestled in the heart of the Staffordshire countryside, this exclusive-use barn venue is full of charm, character, and a warmth that perfectly echoed the love these two share.
From the very first moment they visited, Eli and Tom knew Whistle Barns was the one. With its exposed beams, festoon lighting, and immersive atmosphere, it felt like stepping straight into a woodland fairytale. The magic of the space was brought to life by Lush Occasions’ styling, while the venue’s laid-back pub setting (and well-stocked bar) sealed the deal for Tom.
Eli met Tom through a rather unique introduction – Tom’s brother, who just happened to be her best friend. When she mentioned she was thinking of trying online dating, he casually dropped the bombshell: “My brother thinks you’re attractive.” A phone number was exchanged, a conversation began, and it didn’t take long for them to realise they were both gloriously weird in all the right ways.
Tom proposed on Christmas Day 2020 during the height of lockdown. Plans may have shifted, but the moment was no less special. With the help of their dog Rua – who wore matching bowties for the occasion – Tom asked Eli to close her eyes. Expecting novelty pyjamas, she opened them to find him down on one knee instead. Her surprised reaction (“NOOO!”) was quickly followed by a tearful yes.
Their wedding vision was an Enchanted Forest filled with soft, muted tones, wild florals, and the natural beauty they both adore. Inspired by their love of the outdoors and their four-legged friend, the styling embraced a relaxed, rustic charm. Think whimsical touches, vibrant seasonal blooms, and a day designed with joy and connection at its heart.
The celebration was filled with fun, laughter, and heartfelt moments – from mini golf and board games to a towering sweet table and dancing under the lights. Their first dance to Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley was a nod to Eli’s Granny and to the song that quietly played the moment Tom proposed.
Having photographed Eli’s best friend Jenny’s wedding, I was honoured to be part of their day. It’s always something special when couples find me through personal stories and past celebrations. As with every wedding I photograph, my aim was simple – to make them feel at ease, capture the real, honest moments as they unfolded, and deliver images that will live on not just for now, but for generations.
This gallery reflects the spirit of everything Eli and Tom hoped for – a relaxed, joyful celebration with all their favourite people (and a few cheeky surprises from the dog). It’s a day they’ll never forget, and now, neither will you.
