The history of The Mill Barns

The Mill Barns was once the site of a historic water mill that operated for centuries along the Shropshire waterways. In the 18th century, the mill served as an essential part of local trade, providing flour for nearby towns and villages. After the mill’s closure, the site evolved over time, eventually becoming a country hotel in the late 20th century.

In 2015, a devastating fire led to the complete redevelopment of the property. The owners saw an opportunity to transform the historic location into something truly remarkable — a modern, purpose-built wedding venue that pays homage to its heritage while embracing contemporary design. Today, The Mill Barns combines traditional craftsmanship with innovative architecture, featuring dramatic oak beams, glass walls, and serene reflections over the original mill pond.

Did you know?

  • The venue is built on the site of a 1770s water mill.
  • The design uses sustainable oak framing inspired by traditional English barns.
  • The Mill Pond still flows beneath parts of the venue, creating beautiful mirror-like reflections for photography.
